Principal's Bio

Principal, Montgomery & Sarah Dymond Elementary


Joseph Long is the principal of Montgomery Avenue Elementary School and Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School of the Wyoming Area School District. Mr. Long grew up in South Wilkes-Barre and is a 1982 graduate of Bishop Hoban High School. He graduated from King’s College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and received two master’s degrees from Wilkes University. Mr. Long also received his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Edinboro University.

In the spring of 1997, Mr. Long completed his bachelor’s degree by student teaching at Montgomery Avenue Elementary School. From 1997 through 2001, Mr. Long taught middle school math and science at St. Mary’s Assumption, Pittston. From 2001 through 2006, Mr. Long taught technology in Pittston Area’s Intermediate Center. From 2006 through 2015, Mr. Long has been an administrator at the Greater Nanticoke Area School District servicing the high school, middle school, and elementary schools at various times. During his time at Nanticoke, Mr. Long was trained and certified in Student Assistance Program (SAP). Mr. Long also coached basketball for over 28 years at Palins Junior High, Meyers High School, Seton Catholic High School, and most recently Luzerne County Community College.

As principal at WA, Mr. Long will insure the safety and well-being of your child. Mr. Long’s educational philosophy is built upon respect and communication and views the staff, parents, students, and administration as a team servicing the community.

Mr. Long is married to the former Jenny Ann Meade and the have three children, Joseph, Jack, and Julia Rose. Mr. Long serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Pittston Library, Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, PA District 16/31 Little League Board, and the Jenkins Township Little League Board. Mr. Long is also member of PAESSP (Pennsylvania Elementary and Secondary School Principals). Mr. Long is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in the John F. Kennedy Division in Greater Pittston.   Mr. Long and his family reside in Jenkins Township.
